REM Northstar Johnson Place Crookston Complaint Findings for Neglect

In a report concluded on June 7, 2011, the Minnesota Department of Health cites REM Northstar Johnson Place Crookston for neglect of health care.

The allegation is neglect based on the following information: Client #1 received 1st and 2nd degree burns when the client was unsupervised and was able to access hot coffee that spilled on her thighs.

According to, a scald injury can happen at any age. Children, older adults and people with disabilities are especially at risk. Hot liquids from bath water, hot coffee and even microwaved soup can cause devastating injuries. Scald burns are the second leading cause of all burn injuries.

Treat a burn right away. Cool the burn with cool water for 3–5 minutes. Cover with a clean, dry cloth. Get medical help if needed.
