A common form of neglect in elder care facilities involves a failure to monitor or supervise clients. Assessment after a change in condition is essential to determine if a client requires assistance or medical care. Sexual assault should never occur and any allegations should be immediately investigated to preserve evidence and to protect the resident.

Most forms of elder abuse are preventable with proper care and supervision.
