Birchview Gardens Assisted Living Complaint Findings for Abuse
In a report concluded on June 20, 2014, the Minnesota Department of Health cites Birchview Gardens Assisted Living for abuse – exploitation – drug diversion.
It is alleged that a client was financially exploited when a staff member alleged perpetrator (AP) took the resident’s narcotic medication.
A preponderance of evidence established that financial exploitation did occur. The AP admitted to taking six tablets of gabapentin (an anti-convulsant medication sometimes used for treatment of neurological pain) that belonged to the client and admitted to taking two to three tablets of gabapentin, two to three other times from the same client on prior occasions. The AP was observed on video camera taking medication for the client’s cupboard.

In another report concluded on January 22, 2014, the Minnesota Department of Health cites Birchview Gardens Assisted for exploitation by staff.
It is alleged that financial exploitation occurred when the alleged perpetrator (AP) took and made three purchases totaling $201.57 on a client’s credit card without the client’s permission.
