Financial Exploitation at Guardian Angels Health & Rehab in Hibbing Minnesota

Guardian Angels Health & Rehab Complaint Findings for Exploitation

In a report concluded on October 2, 2014, the Minnesota Department of Health cites Guardian Angels Health & Rehab for exploitation by staff.

It is alleged that a resident was financially exploited when employee (D), the alleged perpetrator (AP) took the resident’s gold ring and pawned it for cash.

Based on a preponderance of evidence financial exploitation did occur when the AP, while working for the agency, took the resident’s wedding ring and pawned it for cash.

The resident constantly wore her/his wedding ring and did not remove it at any time during the day.  The resident required assistance of one staff for activities of daily living and had memory impairments.

Staff stated that the resident’s wedding ring had been replaced with a different ring immediately reported this finding in accordance with the facilities policy and procedure.  The facility contacted the police and conducted an internal investigation.
